Hamnet | Nerve Cinema

Date: 18 March 2026

Venue: Nerve Centre, 7-8 Magazine Street, Derry~Londonderry, Derry~Londonderry, BT48 6HJ

The latest film from Oscar® winning writer-director Chloé Zhao.

Hamnet tells the powerful story of love and loss that inspired the creation of Shakespeare's timeless masterpiece, Hamlet. The film follows Agnes (Oscar® nominee Jessie Buckley), the wife of William Shakespeare (Oscar® nominee Paul Mescal) as they both deal with the death of their only son, Hamnet.

Based on the titular novel by Maggie O'Farrell (who has also co-written the screenplay), this immensely compassionate and stunningly poetic adaptation is both meticulously constructed and impeccably directed. Centred on a miraculous and heart-wrenching performance from Jessie Buckley, Hamnet is an emotionally raw, intensely profound exploration of grief and the power of storytelling.
